“The process in selecting these pieces were mainly what were deemed as works that commented on the battles black people/POC have to overcome within this life, similar to the one JMB faced and overcame. The conflicts we face within the world and how we are perceived ("NOTARY”), the physical conflicts we face within others (“ERNOK”, untitled 1982) and the conflicts we face within our own mind (“HEAD”, untitled 1983). I interpreted these pieces in that way and that’s what caused those to be chosen.“
